This is a monumental day. A little newsletter that I started in 2004 is still going strong into its 5th year. I thank you all for reading the newsletter and encouraging me to keep writing. I want to reward all of you with an information packed issue. I must say, this is my best issue in the last 50. Enjoy and let me know what you would like to see in the next 50! - Rick Kaselj

No Difference in Injury Rates when Novice Runners Follow 10% Running Rule

Article written by Rick Kaselj -

It is estimated that 30% to 79% of runner will encounter a running-related injury and that there are 7 to 59 running-related injuries per 1000 hours of running. It has been shown that 60% of running-related injuries are linked to training errors. Training Tip

“Overuse injuries of the shoulder and elbow resulting from the cumulative soft tissue microtauma associated with the overhead throwing motion are the most common injuries seen in pitchers. Yet many of these overuse injuries are preventable. Strategies for injury prevention in throwers include adherence to safe pitch counts, modification of faulty pitching mechanics, long-toss programs, maintenance of range of motion and flexibility, progressive resistance exercises to facilitate strength and endurance of the dynamic stabilizers and proper warm-up. Fortunately, each of these strategies can be conveniently implemented on the field by athletic trainers, coaches, and athletes.”
